Museum of Textiles
Museum for Textiles |
Obscurely situated with no walk-in traffic at all, this excellent textile museum Toronto is highly recommended for anyone with the slightest interest in textiles. It’s the only museum textile in the country to exclusively collect and display handmade textiles and tapestries from around the world. There are pieces from lain-America, Africa, Europe, South-East Asia and India.
The Tibetan collection
is particularly fine, as is the one from Indonesia. In addition, there is
changing show of contemporary textiles.
The textiles
museum can be found (look hard, the door is tucked back
from the street) at 55 Centre Ave (running south off Dundas St W in Chinatown
between Bay St and University Ave), behind the Toronto City Hall. It’s open
Tuesday to Friday from 11 am to 5 pm, and from noon to 5 pm on weekends.
Admission is $5. Enjoy the information of the textile museum.
