And for visitors unfamiliar with the game, enough background and history is presented to perhaps help explain Canadians passion for this, the fastest of sports. Included is hockey’s biggest prize-the Stanley Cup (or a replica), a re-creation of the Montreal Canadians’ dressing room and all manner of interactive exhibits and activities. Admission is $10 for adults, less for seniors and kids. It’s open every day, with extended evening hours on Friday in summer. Enjoy about Canada hall of fame.

This is a 98-room medieval-style castle-cum-mansion built between 1911 and 1914 by sir Henry Pellat, a very wealthy and evidently eccentric man. The mansion has been a tourist site since 1937, when the cost of upkeep became too much for its owner. The interior is sumptuous, built with the finest materials imported from around the world. Note especially the conservatory. Pellat even brought in stonemasons from Scotland to build the walls around the estate.

In summer, the 2.5 hectares of restored gardens behind the castle are worth a visit in themselves. This area is open to the public (without the need to buy a ticket to the castle) on the first Monday of each month and every Tuesday form 4 pm to dusk.

Obscurely situated with no walk-in traffic at all, this excellent textile museum Toronto is highly recommended for anyone with the slightest interest in textiles. It’s the only museum textile in the country to exclusively collect and display handmade textiles and tapestries from around the world. There are pieces from lain-America, Africa, Europe, South-East Asia and India.

The Tibetan collection is particularly fine, as is the one from Indonesia. In addition, there is changing show of contemporary textiles.
