Obscurely situated with no walk-in traffic at all, this excellent textile museum Toronto is highly recommended for anyone with the slightest interest in textiles. It’s the only museum textile in the country to exclusively collect and display handmade textiles and tapestries from around the world. There are pieces from lain-America, Africa, Europe, South-East Asia and India.

This is one of the top three art galleries in the country, the others being in Ottawa and Montreal. Though not the Louvre, it is excellent, and unless you have a lot of stamina, you’ll need more than one trip to see it all. The arts gallery at 317 Dundas St W, two blocks west of University Ave, houses works (mainly paintings) from the 14th century to the present.

There is also a Canadian section and rooms are changing exhibitions, which can sometimes be the highlight of a visit. The AGO is best known for its vast Henry Moore sculpture collection- one room holds about 20 of his major sculptures of the human form.

The rom Canada museum on the corner of Queen’s Park Ave and Bloor St W is Canada’s largest and has exhibits covering the natural sciences, the animal world, art and archaeology and, broadly, the history of humankind. The royal museum covers five floors, so a visit takes some time.

The collection of Chinese crafts, textiles and assorted arts is considered one of the best anywhere. The Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Etruscan civilizations are also represented.
